Patio tomatoes can actually refer to 2 different things. One, patio tomatoes are a unique variety of tomatoes. The other, of course, is a great place to grow tomatoes for almost anyone. A patio or balcony can be available to almost anyone.

Containers are a great way to put a tomato garden or vegetable garden in places you couldn't normally put one. They are great for growing balcony tomatoes in your apartment, or for putting some plants just outside the back door on your patio as well. However, one big drawback to almost any container garden is the need to stay on top of keeping it watered, especially in the hot summer months. But there are a number of designs for self watering containers and planters that work fairly well without saturating the roots of your plants.

One favorite place to grow tomatoes is on the backyard patio or deck. Of course, many of these same ideas will work just as well for growing tomatoes on a balcony, at an apartment or a second story balcony at your home.  A little care and a well chosen container will make your patio tomatoes a success.
